Our Pastors
In an area where women pastors are still rare enough to garner attention, the Mayland Church of the Nazarene has stepped out of the ministerial box by calling not only a woman, but her husband as well. The Revs. Greg and Darlene "Dee" Bishop, most recently of Knoxville, Tennessee were assigned as co-pastors of the Mayland Church of the Nazarene in November 2007.
Pastors Greg and Dee began their Christian journey on the same day - October 2, 1983. Each has served nearly every volunteer ministry position the church offers, including leadership, teaching, and service roles. In 1998, the Bishops began to feel the need to pursue full-time ministry and applied for, and were awarded, local ministers' licenses through the Nazarene church they were attending at the time.
In July 2004, having met their educational requirements as decreed by the Manual of the Church of the Nazarene, the Bishops both received District Ministerial Licenses through the East Tennessee District Church of the Nazarene. which allow them to pastor a church, serve communion, baptize believers and perform weddings and funerals. Upon completion of their service requirements, both Bishops will be ordained through the Church of the Nazarene.
